Lagos PDP spokesperson, many members dump party for APC

Hakeem Amode, spokesperson of the Poples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, has dumped the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Several other prominent members of the PDP in Lagos also defected on Monday.

The defectors were made up of high-ranking party executives, former candidates, and other stakeholders, citing the PDP’s persistent leadership crisis and internal disunity as their primary reasons for leaving.

Amode, who led the group, expressed deep frustration over what he described as the party’s growing irrelevance and inability to resolve longstanding internal conflicts.

He noted that the PDP had strayed from its founding values, becoming a platform marked by instability, factionalism, and lost political direction.

The leaders of the party who defected include Safurat Abdulkareem, Ola Apena, a former deputy governorship candidate, Rufus Adeniyi, former deputy chairman, and Jerry Afemikhe (Olori Odo), former PDP house of representatives candidate, Surulere constituency 1.

Others are Gbenga Ogunleye, spokesperson to Keshinro Abiodun, the 2023 Lagos PDP governorship candidate, Akeem Jinadu, 2023 house of assembly candidate for Epe state constituency 1, Ibrahim Balogun, 2023 house of assembly candidate for Eti-Osa state constituency 1, Taofeek Bolaji Obanikoro, 2023 Lagos PDP LAHA candidate for Kosofe state constituency 2, Tunde Pratt, 2023 LAHA candidate for Lagos Island state constituency 1, among others.
