Teachers across Ogun state have endorsed Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement was announced on Monday, August 3, 2026, during an interactive session with teachers at the Ake Pavilion, Ake Palace, Abeokuta.
Leaders and members of various teachers’ unions and support groups at the event declared their support for Adeola’s governorship ambition.
The endorsement was jointly backed by the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Association of Primary School Teachers of Nigeria (APSTON), Egba Teachers Association (EGTA), Distinguished Educators, Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and YAYI Teachers.
The state executives and representatives from the 20 local government areas signed the endorsement document, which was subsequently ratified through a voice vote by teachers at the event.
Responding to the endorsement, Adeola thanked the teachers for their support and confidence in his leadership.
He pledged to make education a priority if elected governor, promising sustained investment in educational infrastructure, improved teachers’ welfare, better learning environments and policies aimed at raising the standard of education across the state.
“I am deeply humbled by this overwhelming endorsement from our teachers. Education remains the foundation of sustainable development, and no society can make meaningful progress without motivated teachers and a functional education system,” he said.
“I assure you that the confidence reposed in me will be rewarded with purposeful leadership that prioritises quality education, improved welfare for teachers, and greater opportunities for our children.”
The event was attended by Ogun state Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele; APC deputy governorship candidate Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun; former deputy governors Salmot Badru and Yetunde Onanuga; and Yemisi Salako, wife of the minister of state for health and social welfare.
Also present were former speakers of the Ogun state house of assembly Titi Oseni-Shodunke and Tunji Egbetokun; Ogun commissioner for education Abayomi Arigbabu; former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Tunde Lemo; commissioner for budget and planning Laolu Olabimtan; commissioner for housing Akande Omoniyi; and other government officials, political leaders and education stakeholders.
