Organisers: NIBF 2025 offers lifeline for Nigeria’s collapsing education system

The Nigeria international book fair (NIBF) 2025 is no longer seen as merely a literary exhibition but as a pivotal intervention in Nigeria’s ailing education system, the organisers have said.
In the statement issued by Olufemi Ogunyejo on behalf of the organisers, the fair is intended to ensure that education stakeholders are rallying for reform, especially with the dismal performances of the majority of candidates in the 2025 unified matriculation tertiary examination (UTME).
The theme of the book fair is “Local paper production: Panacea to affordable book production and quantitative education.
“NIBF is not just about books anymore. It’s about building bridges—from policy to the people, from classrooms to communities,” the statement reads.
“As the old adage says… until all children are gathered, we cannot know who will lead…
“The NIBF is our chance to gather minds, marshal resources, and ignite reforms that will determine the future captains of our ship of state.
“The NIBF also presents an economic opportunity. Last year’s edition generated over NGN 200 million in book sales, showing the potential of a revived local publishing industry. But organizers say the real goal is broader: to reignite a culture of learning and provide students with the tools they need to thrive.
“The Book Fair is not just about books—it is about building a bridge back to excellence. If you want to see a Nigeria where education is no longer an afterthought but the agenda, then the NIBF is where you should be.
“Because when the well of wisdom is full, even the driest land can bloom again.
“Join us. Let’s turn the page. Let’s write a new chapter—for education, for Nigeria, for the future.”
