President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Folashade Adekaiyaoja as the deputy director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Adekaiyaoja, a native of Kogi State, is the first female operative in the history of the DSS to hold this position.

According to a presidency source, the appointment aligns with Tinubu’s efforts to reorganise the DSS for enhanced performance.

The source, who requested anonymity because he is not authorised to speak publicly on the matter, stated that Tinubu is committed to restoring professionalism within the service.

The appointment, the first of its kind by any Nigerian president, is also intended to promote career growth for operatives within the DSS.

Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), was reported to have recommended Adekaiyaoja for the role through Oluwatosin Ajayi, the DSS Director-General.

President Tinubu had earlier tasked security agencies with proposing measures to improve service delivery. Adekaiyaoja’s appointment is seen as a pivotal move in achieving this goal.

Additionally, the president has pledged to equip the DSS and other security agencies with artificial intelligence-powered tools to strengthen efforts in combating insecurity.
