The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command says its operatives arrested about 300 suspects during a massive raid on identified crime flashpoints, shanties and uncompleted buildings across the nation’s capital.
Josephine Adeh, police spokesperson in the FCT, said in a statement that the operation was conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, as part of efforts to disrupt criminal activities and prevent crime in the capital.
Adeh said knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs were recovered from several locations raided during the operation.
According to her, the operation targeted locations identified as potential hideouts for criminals, adding that the suspects arrested were undergoing screening and profiling to determine their involvement in criminal activities.
“Those found to have committed offences will be appropriately charged to court in accordance with the law, while persons found to have no case to answer will be released after due screening,” the statement reads.
Ahmed Sanusi, FCT commissioner of police, said the command would sustain intelligence-led raids and proactive policing operations across the territory.
Sanusi particularly directed that locations identified as potential criminal hideouts should remain under police surveillance and be subject to further operations where necessary.
He also warned residents against the use and abuse of illicit drugs, saying substance abuse could impair judgment, fuel violent and criminal behaviour and expose individuals and communities to security risks.
He advised people struggling with drug use to seek counselling and rehabilitation rather than allow substance abuse to lead them into criminal activities.
The commissioner also warned police officers participating in raids against misconduct, including extortion, intimidation, harassment and unlawful demands for money.
He said officers found engaging in such acts would face disciplinary action.
The command urged residents to provide credible and timely information on suspicious activities and suspected criminal hideouts.
