TETFund inaugurates N1.3bn 244-bed female hostel at Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has commissioned a new 244-bed female hostel at Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Rivers state, in a push to ease accommodation shortages facing students in public tertiary institutions.
In a statement on Thursday, TETFund said the project was inaugurated by Aboh Uduyok, the south-south representative on the Fund’s board of trustees (BoT), who praised the polytechnic’s management for delivering the facility on schedule.
Uduyok disclosed that the hostel, funded entirely by TETFund, was constructed at a cost of N1.39 billion, describing the project as “a celebration of partnership, vision, and progress.”
“Across Nigeria, TETFund has been commissioning completed projects in beneficiary institutions. This reflects the Fund’s steady pursuit of excellence and purposeful interventions,” he said.
“It is gratifying that this project was delivered despite current economic challenges. It stands as a symbol of resilience, integrity, and commitment.”
Representing TETFund’s executive secretary Sonny Echono, Samson Imoni of the monitoring and evaluation department commended the institution for its prudent and disciplined use of public funds.
Ledum Gwarah, rector of the polytechnic, expressed gratitude to TETFund, noting that the facility would significantly improve students’ welfare.
“This is not merely a building; it is a facility that transforms lives,” Gwarah said.
“With the comfort provided here, our students will be encouraged to stay on campus, focus on their studies, and thrive in a safe and conducive environment.”
